Education under attack!

For a one day school and college strike - for real jobs and training
Seven campuses of the Northern Regional College are set to close as a result of the Assembly Executives cuts. They are located at Portrush, Ballymoney, Ballymena, Larne, Antrim and Newtownabbey. This is a serious attack on the people of the North East, especially for young people who will be deprived of local access to education. It will mean only four campuses stretching from Coleraine, Magherafelt, Ballymena and Newtownabbey will remain to cater for 15,000 students, with fewer staff as a result of job cuts.
No school closures

Fight the minister’s attacks on young people
In recent months, there has been much speculation on the coming budget cuts imposed by the winners of the general election and the Northern Ireland Assembly. Cuts are likely to affect most areas of the public sector, costing countless jobs and damaging our public services. One of the areas likely to see major cutbacks is education.

Youth Fight for Jobs put to the Minister, concrete initiatives which could immediately be implemented to create jobs. We showed how a programme for building social housing, a publicly owned IT sector and how an expansion of the NHS could immediately create thousands of jobs, while at the same time provide much needed services.

KICK THE BNP OUT

Shut down BNP ‘call centre’
The BNP is operating from a secret office in Dundonald in Belfast. Located at a business park this ‘call-centre’, as they describe it, is used to recruit people. They also use it to distribute their far-right propaganda and spout their racist rhetoric around the Britain.
The BNP has recently made an electoral breakthrough by winning two seats in the recent European elections in England. In recent years the BNP have relied on using far-right populism, and have tried to disguise their fascist past. It would be a mistake to confuse the protest vote the BNP are receiving (as a result of the lack of a genuine mass socialist alternative) with a shift in support for fascism. But it would also be a mistake not to recognise the BNP have been strengthened by these electoral victories.
